This is the app I have been waiting for! I have always wanted to know whether my shooting percentage has improved over time. And now I can actually find out!

It has taught me that my release angle is too low. Now that I'm shooting with more arc, my accuracy has improved!

Frequently Asked Questions

Check out these commonly asked questions about our app. It will help you get the most out of ShotBot.

Q: Where can I download ShotBot?

A: Right now, it is only available on the iOS app store. See the link above to download. We do, however, plan on releasing an Android version in the future.

Q: The app doesn't seem to be capturing my shots. What is going on?

A: This is a common problem with first-time users. Make sure the camera is on the SIDE of the court (between 20 and 30 ft away from the hoop) and is parallel to the out of bounds sideline. The camera should be tilted up so that it can see the hoop. In the app, make sure the hoop is in the center vertically and towards one side horizontally, so that it aligns with one of the ghost hoop images. Ideally, you also want to have a decent amount of light. The camera needs to be able to see the ball and hoop clearly. Oh, and there needs to be a decent net on the hoop or the app will not be able to detect hoop location properly.

Q: Should I use the front camera or the back camera?

A: ShotBot was designed to work with either camera. You can toggle using the camera button on the bottom of the screen. The front camera (the one on the screen side) is nice because you can monitor your progress easier. However, the rear camera (the one on the side opposite the screen) is usually a better quality camera than the front one.

Q: Does this app work on outside hoops?

A: Yes! In fact, on a nice bright day, it works better than it does indoors.

Q: Are there any hidden features that I don't know about?

A: There are a couple. When viewing a past shot, you can toggle the UI on and off by tapping the screen. Also, you can pinch to zoom and pan, and double-tap to go between full and normal zoom.

Q: What if my hoop is not regulation height?

A: If the camera is not on the ground, or if the shooter is not who created the account, or if the hoop is not 10 feet high, then you can adjust these values in the settings. For future sessions, adjust the settings in the menu on the left side. If you already have a session and you want to make an adjustment, then you can edit the shot using the edit button on the top next to the shot info.

Q: That's great! Is there anything else I should know?

A: You can add a name to your session by pressing the edit button next to the session info. Oh and check out the little chart buttons up there. You can view session and shot history easily. Tapping on a dot in the line chart will take you to a session, while tapping on a bar in the bar graph will take you to a shot. Alternatively, if you want to go to a specific shot on the court, tap on one of the dots in the "location" chart on the bottom-right. Finally, know that we are continually trying to improve the app. Updates will be coming out weekly, so stay up to date with the latest ShotBot version!
